Paper Art By Liz Hamman

Pinterest has become an addiction of sorts these days...so much to see and so easy to see it all in one place. I am loving it! :)

During one of this never-ending-scrolling-down-journeys, i stumbled upon these remarkable pictures of paper jewellery. Yes, paper! They were so intricate and innovative that i just had to know more about the designer behind these awe-inspiring creations. What I found out after some probing and googling was really fascinating.

The designs belong to Liz Hamman, a mixed media artist from Cheshire, UK. She has exhibited her jewellery nationally and internationally. Her designs reflect her keen interest in ‘Artists books’ (where the book itself is an art form). Her work displays her fascination of repetitive structures and processes and a love of sculpture, textiles and paper as a material.
She believes that paper is an incredible material and can be manipulated in many ways. It can be cut, stitched, torn, folded, laminated and much more all producing very different results. That is why is the main material for her work.

The paper used for her jewellery mostly comes from reclaimed or used books and maps etc. In her creative deft hands, the books and maps transform completely. These used papers add a certain value to the final designs because of the memories and experiences attached to each of them, making each design a unique piece.

You can see her latest updates at her Facebook page or see all her amazing pictures at Flickr. She also manages a simple blog at http://www.effemera.blogspot.in/.
