Kutch BeadCraft

A bead has two beautiful qualities...it is two and three dimensional at the same time.

A 19th century craft that started with basically decorative purposes with glass beads. The size, texture and colors of the beads are all equally important. The superior craftsmanship, the brilliance and absolute accuracy of its elegance and method all make it a major craft of Kutch.
In beadwork, simple decorative items such as torans, chaklas, indoni, rope of swings, cradle-frames for fans as well as pillow covers are created by women. The women create bead jewelry for themselves and their families to be worn during festivals and marriages and for a girl’s dowry.
The Dhebaria Rabaris women of eastern Kutch are famous for their intricate beadwork. They make products that are also used as offering for temples, which are believed to bring good luck.
