Kokeshi Matches

By an absolute  chance discovery, I stumbled upon these lovely ideas by Kokeshi Match. Pure creativity!!

KOKESHI which means “traditional Japanese wooden dolls”, was started by Kumi Hirasaka in 1994, to be presented in a group exhibition. She drew faces of on every match by hand. After a year, these matches were mass produced and soon it expanded into diverse designs like chicks, piggies, cats and cranes.
Everyday life and traditional Japanese art became the inspiration for these designs. Ideas got inspired from magazines, music and even from random advertisements on trains! Hirakasa and her team’s artistic creations make people smile. Didn’t you?
Humor is an integral part of their designs. They want "…to make something natural and something that gives people a chuckle".
