Sita sings the blues

A story so closed to India's heart but told in such a new, dramatic way that makes you wanna stop everything else and just watch!
Nina Paley, the creator of this wonderful project has presented Sita in a new avatar here.  In the director's words, the film is "a tale of truth, justice and a woman’s cry for equal treatment." It is a 2008 animated film written, directed, produced and animated entirely by American artist Nina Paley (with the exception of some fight animation by Jake Friedman in the "Battle of Lanka" scene), primarily using 2D computer graphics and Flash Animation
It intersperses events from the Ramayana, light-hearted though, and scenes from the artist's own life. The ancient mythological and modern biographical plot are parallel tales, sharing numerous themes.
It created a lot of controversies in India regarding its content and presentation, but I believe what Aseem Chhabra (he was one of the shadow puppets in the film) said "I know that there are enough sane, balanced, liberal people in India who take art for what it is."
