Earth Warriors

'You do not inherit the Earth from your ancestors. You borrow it from your children'. Makes you think, doesn't it? And those guilt pangs you feel in your stomach right now, yes they are real, because we have messed up Mother Earth...big time!
Teaching your kids about 'Saving the Planet' is just half the job done, putting your own efforts into doing something about it is the tough bit. Small it may be, but every effort that goes into recycling or UPcycling helps in undoing some of the damage that we as 'modern' living beings have done to our own planet.
Having a ball while doing something eco-whimsical is the tricky part...but these three 'Nuts' :p have figured out a very creative, fun way of doing just that!

In their own words...

Silver Nut Tree” consists of a team of 3 friends and fellow mompreneurs, Angeline Robinson, Lakshmi Prakash, Rituparna Das, so it is not surprising that it all began because of our children. Having been environmentally conscious always and doing our daily regular tidbits towards betterment, constant queries by our 6/7 year olds about what is recycling, how we can save the earth, is our planet going to be destroyed, didn’t leave us any less ruffled. We were struck by a sudden sense of not doing enough. We tried in many ways to explain what recycling/upcycling was to the kids, but soon realized that empty words were nothing but that. We had to find a way of showing them by example.  Again our creative faculties immediately stood in resistance to something ordinary and mundane. We took this up as a challenge;  recycling/upcycing need not be boring and drab! We wanted to work with something that remained untouched at large, yet a prominent potential hazard to the environment. One eureka moment, and we had our hands all over PET bottle plastic! Now all our little girls want to grow up and become “plastic artists” and have named us the “Earth Warriors”.
Trying to teach the kids by example was one job, but feeding our strong creative urges in the process, and at the same time, was no less either. A lot of trial and error later we learnt that PET plastic can be molded into exquisite shapes on heating. We then experimented with various paint media. The first successful flower that came out of all that slogging was perfect and we didn’t know what to do with that and neither did we want to throw it away..
We, 3 women, like 1000 more, are immensely fond of jewellery. All of us unanimously agreed that we would love to wear such flowers in various ways. From then on there’s been no turning back. We are amazed by the response and the number of people, complete strangers, who come forward each day donating used plastic to us.  We realized how serious this problem is and how environmentally aware most people are and how each little step towards reusing can show us a greener tomorrow.
A few pieces of exquisite plastic artwear and one less PET bottle goes to the ever growing landfill. Who is going to throw away such a pretty little thing?!"

What these mompreneurs have done is nothing ordinary. Their ideas will definitely inspire a few others. In my heart I sincerely hope that it works like a chain reaction and our community of Earth Warriors multiplies everyday!
