the keepsakes...

Do you still have your grandmother’s pair of glasses, which she kept near her bed to help you in your silly craft projects during the summer vacations? Maybe you still have that ribbon that you took off from the car, the very first you owned, after it came out of the showroom? Your first ever Rose from that boy? J A few Rs.10 currency notes from your first salary? Your baby’s first drawing of you? Maybe, just maybe…the movie tickets from that movie (you might’ve forgotten the storyline!!), where he held your hand for the very first time...

These are memories…tucked between the pages of an old novel, or a journal you used to keep or folded between a soft mulmul dupatta inside an old vintage trinket box. Memories are special. They are full of flashbacks, of your childhood, your grandparents’ love, your fast paced college days…and so much more. They are like treasures that never lose their value. You might forget the details surrounding it as you age, but the tinge of warmth that they bring to your heart and the smile to your face will never change.

You have to keep them safe. They fade away...slowly...
Keep them safe…within your reach…so you can go through them whenever you need to remind/rewind an old incident.

Keeping old memories secure has been old habit with me. There was always a box that stored many of my secrets and 'precious treasures'. The keepsake box came back to my life with these creations of handmade, upcycled and wooden Keepsake boxes. These are all made out of rejected or repurposed wood pieces. They have been styled by decoupage craft.
Life in a box…sometimes sweet, sometimes sad, some funny and some plain old romantic. It could be a picture, a handkerchief, some dried up flower petals, a few coins, some glass bangles, a handwritten letter, a single earring (but you do remember where you lost the other one…don’t you?!), an old watch…it could be anything.
It doesn’t have to be expensive, vintage or antique…if it’s your memory and you don’t want to forget it, it’s priceless.
Do you have any such precious treasures? Do share.
